Tips & Advice

  • Pick up a paper route map at De Stadswinkel on the Markt or at Huis73 on Hinthamerstraat if you'd rather not follow the route on your phone.
  • Go in the late afternoon or evening, because window nativity scenes are meant to be lit so they can be seen after dark.
  • Choose the letter hunt for younger children, since it uses icons as well as letters so everyone can join in and there's a prize to win.
  • Save the Escape Puzzeltocht about the Siege of 1629 for teenagers and adults, since that's who the puzzle trail is designed for.
  • Keep an eye on traffic and keep children close while you walk, because you follow the routes through the city's working streets at your own risk.

Special Events & Promotions

  • A festive opening will launch the routes and activities. The date and location are still to be announced.

Quick Actions

Frequently Asked Questions

What routes can I follow?

There are five. The Kerstverhaalroute uses sixteen posters around the Sint-Jan to tell the Christmas story. The Vughterdriehoek route tells the story of the Three Kings. There's also a picture-book walk in the Gasthuiskwartier, a letter hunt and an Escape Puzzeltocht. You can also use the map to make your own walk.

Is it suitable for children?

Yes, it's meant for the whole family. The letter hunt has icons alongside the letters so everyone can join in, and you can win a prize. The Escape Puzzeltocht, about the Siege of 1629, is for teenagers and adults.

Where can I get a route map?

Each route's map is on the website with that activity. You can also pick up maps at De Stadswinkel (Markt 77, Moriaan) or Huis73 (Hinthamerstraat 72).

Can I put my own nativity scene on display?

Yes, if you live or run a business in the historic city centre. It must be visible from the street, ideally lit, and left up for the whole period. Homemade scenes are welcome, and you can sign up on the website.

Are the routes accessible?

All the story routes come with audio and sign language, and the routes are wheelchair accessible. Parked bikes and scooters on the street can still get in the way.
