Tips & Advice

  • Book skating ahead, especially for weekends and school holidays, because popular sessions can sell out quickly.
  • Arrive early if you want a Penguin Stabiliser for a little one, because they are first come, first served and cannot be booked in advance.
  • Students should bring photo student ID, because it is checked on the day to verify student tickets.
  • Use the loading bay on Calverley Street for drop-offs, because roadworks can block the drop-off point on Great George Street.
  • Bring a card or phone for contactless payment, because cards are accepted across the whole site but only some traders take cash.

  • Accessible Skating Session every Thursday, quieter and with more space
  • Breeze Pass holders get a discount on admission

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I bring my own skates?

Yes. Skate hire is included in every ticket, but you can use your own. Hire skates range from children's size 8 to adult size 15, and there are bob skates for younger children.

What help is there for young or first-time skaters?

Penguin Stabilisers are for children up to 1.2m tall in skates and are hired on a first-come, first-served basis. Snowman skating aids are for taller children. Children under 9 must be accompanied on the ice by an adult, and children aged 9–12 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

What happens if it rains?

The rink has a marquee-style roof, so skating usually goes ahead in most weather. Extreme weather can close parts of the site at short notice. Some bar areas have covered seating.

Can wheelchair users skate?

Yes. Wheelchair users can join public sessions in their own wheelchair with a companion on the ice. There is also a quieter Accessible Skating Session every Thursday.

Can I pay by card?

Yes. Cards are accepted across the site and some traders also take cash. Lockers are available to hire.
