Tips & Advice
- Register by email before you start building, because registration is required to take part, and entering the competition is free for everyone.
- Keep 3-D models within the maximum size and deliver them in a box, because oversized or unboxed entries lose five points.
- Label the back of each work in block letters with the creators' names, age, address, school, phone number and email.
- Mail flat 2-D or pop-up work with the note "Nowodworski Foundation Szopka Contest 2026" so it arrives before December 5.
- Make something new this year, because only one entry per person is allowed and work from previous years is not accepted.
Special Events & Promotions
- In-person entry drop-off on Saturday, November 14, in Yonkers and Brooklyn.
- Flat 2-D and pop-up entries can be mailed in, but they must arrive before December 5.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who can enter the competition?
Everyone: children, teens and adults. Whole families, scout groups and school classes are encouraged to build one together. Taking part is free.
What kinds of work can I enter?
There are three categories: 3-D models, 2-D work (drawing, painting or collage), and pop-up. Entries are judged by age group, and individual and group work are judged separately.
What makes a Kraków-style nativity scene?
It's a slender, multi-level, towered, symmetrical and richly decorated model of the birthplace of Jesus. It's built from light materials and stacks miniature Kraków landmarks such as St. Mary's Basilica, Wawel Cathedral, the Cloth Hall, the Town Hall Tower and Wawel Royal Castle. Making your own figures is encouraged.
How do I hand in my entry?
Register by email at office@sitenf.org first. Entries are dropped off in person on Saturday, November 14, at the Polish School in Yonkers or the Polish-Slavic Center in Brooklyn. Flat 2-D and pop-up work can instead be mailed to CPS, 176 Java St., Brooklyn, and must arrive before December 5.
Do I get my nativity scene back after the contest?
Not right away. By entering, you agree to leave your nativity scene for the exhibitions after the contest.
