Know Before You Go

  • Hours: Monday–Friday 16:00–20:30; Saturday–Sunday 13:00–20:30. Nacht der Sterne on December 4: Friday 16:00–22:00.
  • Parking: Parking is available at Volksfestplatz, Tiefgarage Ost (Ludwigstraße 35), and Tiefgarage West (Bauernbräustraße 4).

Tips & Advice

  • Don't try to drive into the old town, because road closures block direct access; park at Volksfestplatz or one of the two underground garages and walk in.
  • If you come by bus, note that the Marienplatz stop moves a few metres during the market because of road closures, but buses still serve it.
  • Come on December 4 for Nacht der Sterne, when the market stays open later, every program event is free and fireworks light up the Rathaus.
  • Bring young children on an Advent weekend for the 20-minute winter fairy tales in the Archivhof's Märchenhütte, which are aimed at ages three and up.
  • Buy tickets through reservix ahead of time for the December 6 Advent town tour with a snack, because unlike the December 5 tour it isn't free.

Special Events & Promotions

  • Nacht der Sterne on December 4: a long night of art in the Schloss, Rathaus, St. Jakob and the parish centre, with fireworks in front of the Rathaus, the market open later and free entry to all events.
  • Nikolaus visits the Archivhof on December 6 with sweets for well-behaved children.
  • Winter fairy tales for children aged 3 and up in the Märchenhütte in the Archivhof on December 5–6, 12–13 and 19–20.
  • Stilt walkers float above the market on December 9, followed by Bayrisch Blech playing Christmas tunes.
  • Advent town tours from the Marienbrunnen: the December 5 tour is free with no registration, and the December 6 tour with a snack needs a paid ticket from reservix.
