Description:

The Sonthofen Klausenmarkt is a unique and fascinating tradition that takes place during the festive pre-Christmas season in the Allgäu town of Sonthofen. The Klausen, brave young men, dress up in dark and cold winter nights and march through the narrow streets of the town. Their costumes consist of fur and leather garments, animal masks, and intricately designed headgear. They accompany their performance with bell and chain rattling to drive out the supposedly evil night spirits from the villages.
