Tips & Advice
- Ensure unflocked trees are cut into sections no longer than 4 feet and 6 inches in diameter before placing them in your green waste cart.
- Remove all stands, decorations, and tinsel from natural trees before recycling to ensure they are accepted as green waste.
- For flocked trees or those with decorations, cut them into pieces and place them in your regular garbage cart with the lid closed flat.
- Commercial entities should contact San Luis Garbage directly to arrange for tree disposal and inquire about any associated fees.
- Call (805) 543-0875 for details on curbside pickup for trees or for commercial disposal options.
Frequently Asked Questions
What qualifies as organic material for the green cart?
Organics include yard waste and food scraps like meat, bones, dairy, grains, bread, fruits, veggies, grass, leaves, small branches, greasy pizza boxes, and food-soiled paper towels. These are processed into compost.
Can I bag my recycling?
Please do not bag recycling in plastic bags. Paper bags are acceptable. Shredded paper is the only exception and can be bagged in clear plastic bags. Plastic bags get stuck in sorting machines.
What should I do with batteries?
Never throw batteries in the trash as they are a common cause of fires. Take them to a Household Hazardous Waste facility or any retailer selling batteries for free recycling.
When are my clean-up weeks?
Most jurisdictions offer two clean-up weeks per year for large items or extra garbage. Dates and details vary by area. Contact San Luis Garbage at (805) 543-0875 for more information.
Can I make changes to my service if I'm renting?
All changes to accounts, including service requests or bulky item pickups, must be made by the account holder who pays the bill.
