800 Years of Rumia – Special Year

What to Expect
Symbolic reference to distant past through a concert in the ruins of the old Cistercian church.
Description
In 2024, Rumia will celebrate its 800th anniversary. The name of the place first appeared in a document issued by Prince Świętopełk II in 1224, at which time the settlement belonged to the Cistercian Order from Oliwa. The beginning of written history from the mentioned document can be learned interesting facts. Świętopełk II issued it to confirm the monks' land grants allegedly made by his predecessor, Sambor I. This means that Rumia may have existed under its name possibly as early as the 12th century, and therefore several decades earlier.
