Accessibility

The City of Kitchener is committed to making sure everyone is treated with respect. This means being kind and polite when using City services, visiting City facilities and parks, or attending events. Read more about the City’s commitment to respectful interactions. Multi-language and American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation support is available in person at City Hall. For in-person visits, staff and customers can actively listen and participate in a call with an interpreter in the language of your choice, using two-way handsets available at our service counters. At City Hall, you can also access support by video in the language of your choice, including ASL. Interpretation services are currently available in-person at all City Hall service counters (including for Kitchener Utilities inquiries), community centres, indoor pools, arenas, and cemeteries. Bylaw and fire staff are also trained and can provide on-site interpretation help. Call 519-741-2345 to access interpretation services by phone. For service by phone, staff will add an interpreter in the language of your choice to your call. While more than 200 languages are available for on-demand interpretation support, some are more difficult to provide due to the limited number of interpreters available for these languages. As a result, interpretation for these languages will need to be handled with a scheduled appointment. They include: Akan, Bajuni, Bravanese, Dutch, Estonian, Javanese, Kanjobal, Kibembe, Macedonian, Q'uiche (Q'eqchi), Sango, Saraiki, Soninke, Swedish, Sylhety, Tshiluba. Please call 519-741-2345 or send us an email with your contact information, the language you would like to get service in and a date and time you are available for the call.
